Going Back in Time!

Visiting the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History is the perfect way to get to know all about the history of Norway! The museum consists of more than 150 buildings and the area dedicated to the museum is divided into smaller areas which represent different social groups and regions of the country. Strolling through these little “villages” really makes you feel like going back in time!

Looking Inside Old Houses

The museum consists of various buildings. We were able to get a feel of peoples living conditions by looking inside old homes of former inhabitants as well as reading about the household. These homes were usually one bedroom apartments with a small common area where big families lived. It was quite inspiring to see how people used to live back in the day!

The Community Itself

Another wonderful thing about the museum was the ability to experience different aspects of the community. We were able to visit the bank, the tobacco store, the liquor store , the gas station and etc. It was a pleasure to be able to have a look at the day-to-day life of the Norwegians as well as imagining how the atmosphere might have been in the community.

To say the least visiting the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History was an amazing experience! We spent hours going through the museum with a map of the area in hand to make sure we wouldn’t miss out on anything! We spent our time there imagining being in the situations of former inhabitants. The thing that stood out the most was how much freedom there was at the museum, we were able to enter every building without having to interfere with guards or staff. It can be well seen that the maintenance of the museum is outstanding which is a big plus!
